Soon to go coastal
A question for those of you in northern California or southern Oregon. We are finally working out the details of our upcoming road trip and we are almost there, but still need to figure out where to stop between Walnut Creek and Eugene. We are thinking somewhere close to the California/Oregon border, either on the coast or near HWY 5. Do you have any suggestions for what would be a good place to stop and spend the night? On the knitting side of things, I finished the Wild Apple hat and will soon post a few notes about the experience for

Okay, so I know I told you about the Hotel Syliva in Vancouver, BC (http://www.sylviahotel.com/), but there’s also the Sylvia Beach Hotel (http://www.sylviabeachhotel.com/) which I just NW of Eugene, OR. It’s a quaint place with rooms themed after various authors, and it’s on the beach. I’ve never stayed there, but I know someone who loves it and I’ve visited it. It’s in a really sweet part of Newport, OR. Really, I don’t have some obsession with all things “Sylvia”, I just realized I happen to know of two hotels bearing the same name. Go figure.

We did a road trip from here to Napa once, we stopped at the Requa Inn, near Klamath. That might be a little far south for what you’re looking for but it was a lovely place!
I am sending you an email with me info…

Oh, those yarn ends may re-appear in my nightmares – I HATE weaving in ends… \Thanks\
Wish I could give a good place to stop, but my east-coast-ness isn’t helping me very much! Have a good trip, though :)

Walnut Creek! wish i were still living in the east bay to say hello.
my favorite places along the coast are probably too far south to be convenient for your trip… nevertheless, here are some…
Pelican Inn: lovely woodwork, right by the beach, near the redwoods, yummy food. (http://www.pelicaninn.com/location.html)
Point Reyes: beautiful, wild shores. Hog Island oysters. Cowgirl Creamy cheese.
Mendocino: charming coastal town. lovely place to walk around and wake up to.
St Orres (http://www.saintorres.com/), a beautifully built b&b on a quiet/lonely stretch of the Pacific.

Thank you for the links! They may come in useful for a different trip, but you are right, they are too far south for this one. We are looking to stop close to the border between California and Oregon to break a long leg of the trip. Now we are thinking of going straight form Walnut Creek to Eugene, and make this stop on the way back between Manzanita and Walnut Creek.
