to prevent them from ingesting poison while they wait to be cleaned up. These tiny sweaters are a quick knit. Instructions for the Penguin Jumper in 8ply are on Skeinz’s spring newsletter. Now I have to find some wool of appropriate thickness. 8-ply doesn’t mean much to me, and unfortunately there is no mention of gauge so I’ll have to guess based on the needle size. It also seems to me that it would be easier to knit this in the round up to the wholes for the wings (are they called wings?). What do you think?

8ply yarn in Australia and New Zealand is the same as DK. The “ply” mapping is:
2ply – lace weight
3ply – light fingering
4ply – fingering
5ply – sport
8ply – DK (double-knit)
10ply – worsted
etc. It’s also on Ravelry somewhere. A yarn labelled as “10 ply” may not actually have 10 strands – I’ve used “10ply” that has 8 strands and knits up as worsted weight, so the ply is really just a traditional name for yarn thickness.
Cute jackets, though.

Oooh, they’re soo cuuute! A comment on the website says they may already have more sweaters than they need, but so cute. New Zealanders had a campaign like this about 8 years ago or so, and I missed the chance to contribute then too. Next time I’ll catch it right, but then hopefully there won’t be a ‘next tome’.

I love that there are patterns for penguin sweaters.
From what I’ve seen in the pictures, I’d guess a dk or worsted weight would be appropriate. And yes, they are wings.

One of the people in my knitting group was talking about this yesterday! I want to make some too :)
