The “K” files
A bit of reorganization chez Fluffbuff (or should I say chez Slow Knits since I started to use that name?).
My old binders finally got labels on the spine. And new binders found a spot on a different shelf. Yes, they look exactly like the old binders, just a splash of yellow for a change. For once, Staples was stocking the same product when I went back for more, unlike the plastic containers I’ve been using for my yarn. As soon as I got a good supply of stackable transparent containers, they discontinued the line. This time I found some dividers with repositionable tabs that come in non-offensive colors. Yes, yes, I’m picky. Yellow makes me happy. Wish they’d had those yellow binders a couple of years ago when I started my collection. The dividers aren’t entirely visible in the binders because all my print-outs are inside sheet protectors that come out almost as far as the tabs, but they are still useful when leafing through the pages. How do you store your print-outs? Or do you keep mostly digital files? I am all for saving trees, but find it a lot easier to read on paper. Posted by Francesca | 7 comments

I’m 98 0/0 digital on the iPad except for ysolda table based patterns. There are apps that allow you to take notes in the margins of pdf’s. I just don’t like to print off any thing I don’t have to. Even our office is pretty much 95 0/0 paperless only printing for clients.
For magazines though I have them filed by year and type on the shelves. Knitting books though are separated by nationality( us, Japanese, French, German); subject matter, techniques, and design techniques. Then alphabetized by authors name.

Very impressive, and there’s nothing like seeing a good bit of organisation elsewhere for prompting something similar at home!

I use PDFs on my iPhone and iPad, but if a pattern necessitates using notes and highlighting, I end-up printing on paper. I’m quite disorganized: I keep most paper patterns in chronological stack of clothes, yarn, knitting magazines, and patterns heaped in my closet. It will make a great archeological dig someday.
Btw, despite having an iPhone and iPad, as well as a Mac, I still HAVE to have a paper calendar to comfortably keep track of what’s going on.

I’m pretty much 100% digital. I have a stack of magazines in the attic of my mom’s house, but I’ll admit that if I knit from them, I use a handy scan wand to scan a pdf and save it to my laptop or phone :X

My printouts are organized chronologically in several different binders. And by that, I mean that when I print out a pattern and I’m done using it, I put it in a page protector in the front of my binder on top of whatever the last thing I printed out was. It’s a nightmare if I ever want to find anything…

Digital, digital, and digital. I have a few folders with patterns cut out of magazines, but 90% of my patterns are pdfs.

Everything digital here, but I have notebooks, for um notes, and binders for the stuff I print out because I need to refer to it when knitting, or absolutely need to keep a paper copy. Some of mine are lime green, and some are hot pink, my usual choices. Your yellow ones look very jolly. Funny how we all have favourite colours even for functional things like binders!
