Adding merino to silk+steel

After all the kitty drama at the end of last week (we are back to normal, thank you for all your good wishes!), getting a wonderful gift in the mail was just what the doctor ordered. The package from Olga brought me an ounce of Habu merino in a color that happens to match exactly the silk+steel I'd been swatching with. Grazie mille!! By the way, check out Olga's kusha-kusha scarf and look around her blog for more Habu yarns and projects. And if you're not sick of Habu news and pictures yet, there's more at Coloursknits.

Habu packages look deceptively small; this one has *a lot* of yardage in it. I didn't even bother to swatch this time and cast on directly for a scarf. I am knitting with one strand of silk+steel yarn and one strand of merino and they are working beautifully together. Not only that; I am also enjoying the knitting process a lot more then when I was knitting just with the steel yarn.

The scarf is narrow, but it'll probably end up quite long, unless I run out of the silk+steel yarn early. It's hard for me to judge as I've never used a cone before.

What I like about this project is that it's mindless stockinette and I can pick it up any time without having to worry about rows and stitches. Which reminds me: I haven't touched the Myrtle Leaf shawl in several days.

That's some very pretty fabric! I like how open the stockinette is. What does this new yarn combo feel like knitted up, and what is the drape like?

Oh, Francesca! Prego!
Your stitches look perfect and look at that... perfect color.. I haven't seen the grey stainless steel yet, so what a wild guess! I am glad you are enjoying knitting your scarf now, as it made a difference for me, merino "sticks" to the needles and make the knitting much effortless than with silk stainless steel alone, but as you guessed your steel yarn may run out faster than merino.

I can barely see the silk+steel. What a good idea, though. It's always good to have at least one mindless project. I save the mindless stuff for when I am tired or riding in a car.

That looks great! Have you seen the new colours they have for both the silk and wool with stainless steel?

What a lovely patina!

Are you going to LAF on Sunday? If so bring this, I am anxious to feel/see it.

I really love the colour of the fabric. Hmmmmm... I should be good and not order from habu since it is MS&W weekend. But that is certainly on my list now of things to order.

The scarf is going to be lovely.

A very beautiful colour! Good to hear the kitty front is back to normal.

Sometimes it's only the mindless knitting (or reading or television) that will do. A good way to relax!
