Steel yarn
Pipie is very interested in the latest yarn shipment. There must be something intriguing in the way the yarn smells because he can't stop sniffing it. I am extremely sensitive to smells, but can only detect a faint odor, neither pleasant nor unpleasant.
I had been thinking of trying out Habu's steel yarn and finally ordered a cone of silk+steel and one of wool+steel. Habu's packages are always cool. The 2-ply cashmere comes in tiny balls and the steel yarn in cones. Each one is only 0.5oz, but it looks rather imposing on the cone.
I tried to get pictures without the kitty, but it wasn't easy.
The charcoal yarn is 75% wool and 25% stainless steel.
The brownish yarn is 69% silk and 31% stainless steel.
I am very curious to see how they feel and knit up.

I can't wait to hear your experience with that yarn. It sounds so strange, yet interesting!

Wow - Steel? Holy cow my initial thought is "it'll rip your fingers up" but it looks fantastic. It looks to be the same color as your very beautiful model.
I can't wait to see how you "feel" about it.

Wow!
I've never heard of such a thing before.
Must be strong.

Those yarns look really cool, and I love the colors you chose. What kind of cat is Pipie?

Silly Pipie! He must know there's something special about this yarn. Maybe he's hoping you'll knit him something since it matches his fur.
I'm glad that you are trying that yarn, because I've been wondering about it myself. I look forward to seeing what project you come with for it.

Ooooo! I'm so jealous. There's just something about Habu. Your yarn matches your cat.

Habu had a booth at conference and a sample garment in this stuff. It is not as imposing as it sounds. While it wasn't the softest fiber, it wasn't the scratchiest either.

ooh--I'm curious, too! Do tell!

I'm making a Habu jacket right now using a strand of merino and a strand of silk + wool held together. It's surprisingly soft ... much more than you'd expect. I can't wait to see the jacket when I've finished it. I think I'm turning into a Habu collector as my little plastic container is suddenly full and needs to move to a bigger one!
Thanks for the info on Library Thing. Maybe I should get organized one of these days and list my knitting books. I've got a wonderful knitting library.

i love those habu cones. even the typography is cool. i will definitely be back to see how you like working with this stuff. it would be great to use to make the beaded bracelets in that book glamour knits.

ROFL... Pipie must think you need to knit him something out of the yarn.
I really like the steel yarn, I have knit with it a couple of times. Though I really dislike the copper and silk yarn they sale. At least for me the copper reacted to my body chemistry and my hands just stunk for days.

ooohh pretty!! I have the brown stainless steel too. It's gorgeous! I can wait to see what you plan to do with them :)
